The Spitball story begins with the diagnoses of a chronic disease at Seattle Children's Hospital. The news was a total blindside - as it is for too many families. But we leaned on old allies, made new friends and found a new normal. And now we’re punching back. You could say we’re pissed off and this is what we’re doing about it. We are partnering with organizations that springboard children beyond health to a place where they feel good enough to be whoever they want to be.

Because you can’t get your name on the board if you’re home sick from school.

My name is Thatcher Heldring. I founded Spitball in 2016 after ten years at a Seattle-based outdoor learning organization, most recently as the Director of Communications and Creative Services. I played a lot of roles before launching Spitball. Author. Copywriter. Editor. Creative Director. Baseball coach. I’ve worked with major book publishers, global pharmaceutical companies, and nonprofits focused on everything from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy to environmental education. I’ve written grant proposals and newsletters; prepared corporate communications tools and media kits; and teamed up with great minds on brand strategy, documentary filmmaking, and visual design. If you have a mission related to children and health, I’d love to partner with your organization.
